Women's Rowing Finishes 14th At NCAA Championships

CAMDEN, NJ -- The USC varsity eight boat endured a disappointing performance at the 2000 NCAA women's rowing championships by finishing 14th overall in a field of 19. The championships were held May 26-28 on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.
In the first heat of competition on Friday (May 26), the Trojans fell one spot shy of advancing to the championship semifinals. With the top two in each heat advancing directly to the next round, USC finished third with a time of 6:35.10. Washington (6:23.60) was the first to cross the line, followed by the varsity eight boat from Princeton (6:28.10). The top 12 teams in six heats qualified for the semifinals.
On Saturday morning, the remaining teams raced to determine places 13-19. Yale came in first with a time of 6:36.39 to earn 13th place. Trailing by nearly three seconds, USC crossed the line second (6:39.79) to claim 14th, and Oregon State followed closely with a time of 6:40.39 to place 15th.
Brown claimed both the second and first varsity eight grand final races to capture its second straight NCAA Women's Rowing Championship title.
