
No. 4 Men's Volleyball Downs Hawaii In Five Games

LOS ANGELES -- Eli Fairfield had a match-high 40 kills while hitting a team-best .373 to lead the No. 4-ranked USC men's volleyball to a hard-fought comeback victory over No. 5 Hawaii, 15-12, 3-15, 13-15, 15-13, 15-8, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest on Friday (March 3) in the USC North Gym.
The Trojans improved to 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the MPSF, while Hawaii fell to 9-4 and 5-3.
USC was up 9-7 in the fifth game when Dustin Avol came in to serve and the Trojans reeled off 5 consecutive points. On the next serve, Donald Suxho's kill gave Troy the win.
Trevor Julian and Beau Rawi each had 15 kills for USC. Rawi, who hit .323, also had 8 blocks, as did Suxho.
Miles McGann--in his first action as a Trojan--had 13 kills. He played the first 4 games in place of USC kill leader Brook Billings, who rested a sore leg. Billings, who missed 4 matches with a stress fracture in his leg before returning to action in USC's previous match at Pepperdine, came in for the fifth game.
Costas Theocharidis led the Rainbows with 30 kills while hitting .392. Teammate Clay Stanley added 25 kills and 8 digs.
Hawaii outhit USC, .305 to .271.
The teams play again on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the USC North Gym.
