STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team lost 10-5 to #4 University of Southern California on Saturday, Mar. 25. The Tigers fell to 7-13 on the season, 0-6 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games. USC improved to 13-5 overall, 6-2 in MPSF games.
USC took an early lead in the game with Aniko Pelle scoring the first goal with 6:41 left into the first quarter. Selah Mapes added one goal while Nina Wengst put two goals away to lead 4-0 at the end of the first quarter. Molly Smith scored to cut the Trojans lead 4-1 with 6:16 left in the second period, but the Trojans scored one more to take a 5-1 lead. Pacific's Amy Valois scored with 4:18 left in the first half to cut USC's lead to 5-2. Pacific closed the gap to 5-3 after Molly Smith added another goal. USC scored with :06 left in the first half to lead 6-3 at halftime. The Trojan's defense kept a shut out in the third quarter, while Christine Zador put three goals away to take a 9-3 lead. Cari Bertrand and Molly Smith added a goal a piece in the fourth quarter to cut the lead, but Sandra Milicev added one more goal for USC to conclude the game 10-5.
Zador scored three goals to lead the Trojans offense, while the Tigers were paced by Smith's three goals.
