LOS ANGELES - USC students recently celebrated Spring Break, but for the women's water polo team, it was a business trip mixed in with fun in the sun on the beaches of Brazil. The team participated in the Sao Paulo International Tournament, which featured USC, the "A" and "B" National Teams of Brazil and the National Team of Argentina. USC went 3-1 in the tournament, including a 7-4 win in the championship over the Brazilian "A" team.
"It was a very positive environment for our student-athletes," said USC Head Coach Jovan Vavic. "During the competition, it was very competitive and physical. But when the ladies were not competing, everyone was friendly towards each other. I am very proud of how our team represented themselves and the University."
"I thought we played our best match of the season in the championship," said Vavic. "Hopefully, this will give our team some confidence as we head into post-season play."
The Trojans travel to California for a match this Friday (March 24) and Pacific on Saturday (March 25) in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches.
The team will host Loyola Marymount in a non-conference match on April 5 before the MPSF Championships on April 7-9 in San Jose.
