LOS ANGELES - Seniors Stever O'Rourke and George Csaszar scored two goals each in their final home match Sunday as the No. 2 USC Trojans defeated the No. 10 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 9-2, at McDonald's Swim Stadium in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match. USC is now 18-4 overall and finish 6-2 in MPSF play. The Trojans have won eight of their last nine matches.
UCSB falls to 6-15 overall and 1-7 in MPSF play.
The Trojans took control early on with four goals in the first period. After Paul Rave's goal for UCSB, the Trojans rattled off seven unanswered goals, including the first four goals in the third period before the second and final UCSB goal.
"We played very well defensively," said USC Head Coach Jovan Vavic. "We did well in transition and Darin Smith made a very big save at point-blank range early in the match to set the tone."
USC will conclude the regular season with a non-conference match next Saturday against top-ranked UCLA at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Complex. The time will be determined based on the start of the USC-UCLA football game, also played at the Rose Bowl.
