PASADENA -- Adam Wright scored three goals Saturday and the No. 3 UCLA Bruins defeated the No. 2 USC Trojans, 6-5, in a non-conference match at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. With the victory, the Bruins improve to 18-3 overall while the Trojans fall to 18-5.
Senior goalie Darin Smith kept the Trojans in the match in the first period when he stopped a penalty shot by Wright, that would have given the Bruins a 3-0 lead.
George Csaszar and Ivan Babic scored two goals each for the Trojans, who will prepare for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament next weekend in Los Alamitos. USC will be the No. 3 seed, based on their 6-2 conference record, behind No. 1 UC Irvine and No. 2 UCLA. The tournament will begin on Friday (Nov. 24) with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships at Pepperdine University (Dec. 2-3).
