Volleyball Defeats 14th-Ranked UCSB In Five

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 4th-ranked USC women's volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to hand the 14th-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos their first home loss of the season 10-15, 12-15, 15-4, 15-4, 15-7 Tuesday evening.
Janae Henry led the USC attack with 22 kills on the evening while April Ross and Jennifer Pahl each finished with 18 kills. With the win USC moves to 17-1 on the season while UCSB falls to 15-6.
It was a tale of two halves as UCSB won the first two games with a hitting percentage of .289 and limited USC to a .204 mark. UCSB outside hitter Danielle Bauer collected 17 kills in the first two games and hit .452 in leading the Gauchos to victories. Simone Kuhn added ten kills in the first two games for UCSB and hit .300 as the Gauchos headed into the break with the lead.
But it was a much different story from that point on. USC outscored the Gauchos 45-15 the rest of the way, dominating the rest of the match and out-hitting the Gauchos .305-to-.067 in the final three games. The Women of Troy also out-blocked Santa Barbara 10 to three in the final three games after the teams both had posted six blocks in the first two. Five different Trojans finished with double-digit kills and six finished with double-digit digs. Ross and Antoinette Polk each had a match-high 23 digs while Katie Olsovsky led USC at the net with a personal best eight blocks.
Bauer was limited to only nine more kills in the final three games, finishing with a team-high 26, and Kuhn could only muster up two more to finish with 12. USC finished the match out-hitting the Gauchos .257-to-.177.
Up next for the Gauchos is a 7 p.m. home match against Utah State on Friday, October 28th. USC travels to Oregon State for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday.
