Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 1-ranked USC Women of Troy defeated Arizona State, 3-1, Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe. The Trojans overcame a first game setback by taking the next three to maintain their perfect 14-0 record and 8-0 mark in the Pac-10. The Sun Devils are now 12-6 on the season and 4-4 in the Pac-10.
Five of six USC starters posted double-digits in kills on the night, while freshman Katie Olsovsky led all players with a .464 attack percentage (15 kills) and five total blocks. Outside hitters Antoinette Polk (22 kills, 11 digs), Janae Henry (13 kills, 13 digs) and Ross (17 kills, 20 digs) all led both offensively and defensively for USC. Middle blocker Jennifer Pahl recorded another 15 kills and five blocks in the match.
ASU senior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge led all players with 26 kills and added 15 digs, two service aces and two solo blocks to the cause.
A first-game loss 30 minutes into the match marked only the second time this season the Women of Troy have endured a game loss. UCLA, who will face Arizona State tomorrow night, recorded the first and only game win against the Trojans last week in Los Angeles.
USC will travel to Tucson tomorrow, Oct. 13, to face No. 6 Arizona, who currently shares the conference lead with the Trojans. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
