Spanich Earns Compaq Play of Year

LOS ANGELES - Senior forward Adam Spanich's performance at Eugene on Jan. 7, when he hit two three-point shots in the final 2.8 seconds to give USC an 85-84 win, was named Compaq Play of the Year.
With USC down by five with 2.8 seconds remaining, Spanich hit a three-pointer from the right corner to make it 84-82 with eight-tenths of a second left. He then intercepted a long pass, took a dribble and swished a shot from half-court to stun the Ducks. Spanich, who had a season-high 26 points against the Ducks, also had a game-winning three-pointer against then-No. 2 Arizona in the next-to-last game of the 1997-98 season.
Spanich and USC Coach Henry Bibby were recognized during the Final Four festivities in St. Petersburg, Fla., at a press conference announcing Compaq's Men's and Women's Plays of the Year on March 26.
Spanich finished the season as USCs fourth-leading scorer, averaging 8.4 points per game. He led the team in three-point percentage (.383, 46-of-120) and was second in three-pointers made. He finished his two years at Troy as No. 8 on the USC career three-point chart with 119.
