No. 15 Trojans Defeat Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 45 Arizona fell to No. 5 USC 6-1 Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The loss drops the Wildcats' record to 0-3 on the season, 0-2 in Pac-10 play. The Trojans now move to 5-0, in Pac-10 action.
Senior Adnan Novo claimed the single victory for Arizona at the No. 1 spot by defeating Patrick Gottesleben 6-0, 2-6, 6-2.
USC defeated the Wildcats at all other singles positions. No. 48 ranked Andrew Park defeated junior Jean-Noel LaCoste at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-3. At the No. 3 position senior Pascal Salasca lost to Ryan Moore 6-4, 6-2. Roman Kukal defeated Wildcat junior Michel Stopa 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Freshman Caleb Marquardt fell to Greg Hill at the No. 5 position 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2). At the No. 6 spot sophomore Brian Jackson was defeated by Nicholas Rainey 6-2, 6-1.
The Trojans claimed all three doubles positions. Gottesleben and Kukal defeated Salasca and LaCoste 9-8 (5) at the No. 1 spot. Novo and Jackson fell at the No. 2 spot to Moore and Rainey 9-7. At the No. 3 position Stopa and Brown lost to Hill and Park 8-4.
The Wildcats will return to action Monday, Feb. 8 when it hosts Utah at 1:30 p.m. at the Robson Tennis Center.
