LOS ANGELES--Eli Fairfield had a match-high 33 kills to lead the No. 11-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 15-6, 15-13, 10-15, 15-17, 15-11 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over UC Irvine on Tuesday (Feb. 2) in USC's North Gym.
USC improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MPSF, while UC Irvine falls to 3-5 and 2-4.
For Troy, Brook Billings added 28 kills while Donald Suxho notched a match-best 18 digs.
For the Anteaters, Donnie Rafter had a team-high 18 kills. USC took game one handily, then fought off an Anteater rally to win game two. After dropping game three, Troy fell behind 14-8 in game four, then scored seven straight points to take the lead before losing 17-15. The Trojans closed out the match 15-11 in game five. Later this week, USC hosts Pacific on Friday (Feb. 5) and Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 6) in the North Gym, both at 7 p.m.
