Men's Volleyball Wins at Cal Baptist

LOS ANGELES - The USC men's volleyball team (1-1 overall) posted its first victory of the 1999 season with a 15-8, 15-13, 15-7 win at Cal Baptist. It was the first-ever match for the Cal Baptist program.

Troy's Eli Fairfield had a match-high 15 kills and 5 blocks, while teammate Trevor Julian added 10 kills.

USC participates in the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 15-16). Troy is seeded fourth in this 20-team tourney, behind UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and Long Beach State. The 4 other teams in USC's Friday pool-play division are Pacific, LaVerne, UC Santa Cruz and Fresno State. This will be USC's 15th appearance in the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate Invitational, dating to 1982, and the Trojans have won the tourney 3 times (1987, 1991, 1994). Troy finished seventh last year.
