Dumais Impressive at Diving Nationals

LOS ANGELES - USC sophomore All-American Justin Dumais reached a pair of individual finals and teamed up for a synchronized title as well at the 1999 U.S. Spring National Diving Championships last week in Orlando, Fla.
Dumais, who reached the finals in all three diving events at the recent NCAA Championships, took fourth in the platform with 582.33 points and was sixth in the 3-meter springboard with 567.54 points. He just missed the finals cut in the 1-meter springboard and finished seventh overall with 340.89 points.
Dumais then teamed with Mark Ruiz to defend their synchronized platform title on the final day of the competition on Saturday (April 18), scoring 319.08 points. Dumais also teamed with younger brother Troy in the synchronized 3-meter and finished 11th (196.29).
For his efforts, Dumais qualified for the United States national team and will be among four divers to represent the U.S. at the FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix next month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
On the women's side, USC freshman Kellie Brennan, the Pacific-10 Conference champion in the 1-meter, competed in two events in Orlando. She reached the semifinals of the 3-meter springboard, finishing 12th overall (434.79), and made the quarterfinals of the 1-meter springboard, taking 17th (212.28).
