PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Shawnetta Stewart scored 28 points and Tasha Pointer 17 as No. 12 Rutgers pulled away from Southern California in the second half for a 76-59 victory Thursday.
Stewart scored 20 points in the second half as Rutgers built leads to 21 points. She also had eight rebounds as Rutgers controlled the boards 45-23. Tammy Sutton-Brown also had eight rebounds for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers (7-2), coming off an eight-day layoff since a victory over then-No. 6 UCLA, couldn't shake USC early. Rutgers led 32-23 at the half, but USC (5-5) scored the first four points of the second half to get within five. Rutgers then went on a 10-2 run, with Stewart getting six, for a 42-29 advantage.
After USC closed to 52-47, Rutgers put the game away with a 21-4 run over the next nine minutes.
Erica Mashia scored 15 points and Danielle Golay 12 for USC.
