LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Led by a balanced scoring attack, including 15 points from Mate Milisa, Long Beach State pulled away from Southern California in the second half en route to a 76-66 victory on Thursday.
Antrone Lee and James Williams added 14 points each for the 49ers, and Grant Stone chipped in 10 more.
Long Beach State (4-3) held the Trojans without a field goal for over seven minutes late in the second half to cement the win. The Trojans shot just 24 percent from the floor in the second period.
USC (5-5) led for almost the entire first half and was up 39-37 at the intermission. A free throw by Charles O'Neal with 12:27 left in the game put the 49ers up 52-51, a lead they would not relinquish.
Two free throws by Nate Hair cut the 49ers lead to three with 2:57 left in the game, but Long Beach State hit free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Trojans were led by 19 points each from David Bluthenthal and Sam Clancy. Brandon Granville added 16.
