Katie Valdes has been working with the performance nutrition team at USC since 2019 and is currently holding the position of Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition.
The former collegiate athlete ran cross country and track and field at USC, serving as one of the team captains of the 1996 Women’s Track and Field Pac-10 Championship Team. She continues to run, train, and race competitively, regularly ranking at the top of her field. Katie’s extensive history with college sports helps her to easily relate to her athletes and provide guidance with her personal experience.
While at USC, Valdes played a role in the Women’s track and field 2021 national championship, 2021 Women’s track and field PAC-12 championship, Women’s golf PAC-12 championship in 2021. Katie prepped and fueled former Trojans and current Olympians for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. During the COVID-19 shortened season, Katie helped fuel the football team in new, creative ways, making it to the PAC-12 Championship game. She also ensured all athletes were receiving food during the pandemic through redesigning the food service model closely working with the food service staff of Little Galen. She has worked with many other sports at USC, including Women’s soccer, Women’s lacrosse, Women’s rowing, and Men’s basketball.
Prior to USC, Katie was a FitWell dietitian at UCLA. She also spent 5 years running WellMade Provisions providing pre and post meals to fuel high school athletes with her catering business.
Katie earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Southern California in 1996 as well as a master’s degree in nutrition at Cal State Los Angeles in 2004.
She has been a credentialed Registered Dietitian (RD) since 2004. She also is a Board-Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). Katie is an active member of the Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitians Association CSPDA and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
