A two-time national champion and All-American in beach volleyball, Alexa Strange is a now a senior setter for the Women of Troy.
2016 BEACH
As a senior, Strange was named a DiG Magazine All-American… selected to the first-ever Pac-12 All-Conference team… chosen as Pac-12 Pair of the Week (April 18) with partner Sophie Bukovec… played exclusively with Bukovec at the No. 2 position in duals and produced a 33-9 overall record, including a 25-6 mark in duals… provided the clinching point in six dual victories for the Trojans… helped USC claim the first-ever NCAA beach volleyball championship… advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Pairs’ Championship… advanced to the Hawai’i Invitational Gold Final and the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge Gold Final with both title-match losses at the hands of teammates Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes.
2015 BEACH
As a junior, Strange was named an AVCA All-American… she played exclusively with partner Sophie Bukovec and completed the season with a 33-10 overall record, 23-5 at the No. 2 position in duals… helped USC win its first-ever beach volleyball championship… advanced to the semifinals of the Queen of the Beach Challenge and the Pac-12 Invitational gold bracket… advanced to the final of the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge silver bracket… advanced to the quarterfinals of the AVCA Pairs Championship.
2014 BEACH
Following her transfer from Nebraska, Strange played as a sophomore at USC… partnered exclusively with Kelly Claes to produce a 33-7 overall record including a 22-3 mark in dual matches at the No. 2 position… second duo in USC history to record 30 or more wins in a single season… advanced to the quarterfinals of the USC Tournament and to the semifinals of the Rainbow Wahine Spring Challenge… won the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge silver bracket in Hermosa Beach, Calif.… advanced to the semifinals of the Pac-12 Invitational before falling to teammates Sara Hughes and Kirby Burnham… selected to play in the AVCA Pairs Championship; lost in the round of 16… won 17 straight matches from March 27-April 20.
NEBRASKA (BEACH)
As a freshman on Nebraska’s sand team in 2013, Strange joined Kelsey Robinson on the No. 1 pairs team and went 6-3 in dual matches (7-5 overall).
NEBRASKA (INDOOR)
As a freshman outside hitter at Nebraska in the fall of 2012, Strange appeared in 25 matches and hit .309 with 25 kills, 55 digs, 15 assists, seven blocks, and two service aces as the Cornhuskers advanced to the second round of the NCAA tourney.
SAND EXPERIENCE
Strange advanced to the round of 16 of the 2014 FIVB U21 Beach World Championships and was 4-1 in pool play with partner Delaney Knudsen (Pepperdine) in Cyprus… placed ninth with Jace Pardon (Florida State) at the 2013 FIVB U21 World Championships in Croatia… in 2011, she was 25th at both the FIVB U19 World Championships in Croatia (with Mikayla Tucker) and the Jose Cuervo Manhattan Open (with former Trojan Cinnamon Sary)… teamed with former Trojan Natasa Siljkovic to finish third at the 2013 EVP Huntington Beach Winter Series.
HIGH SCHOOL and CLUB
Strange was a four-year letterwinner as a setter and opposite hitter at San Clemente HS (Calif.)… was a 2011 prep All-American second teamer and Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection as a 2011 senior… twice named to the All-CIF Team… had 321 kills and 307 assists… played for the Coast Volleyball Club for five years.
PERSONAL
Alexa Chitra Strange was born on June 10, 1994, in Palos Verdes, Calif.… parents are Greg and Tara Strange… both parents attended USC… has two brothers, Andrew and Aaron… brother Aaron is a freshman on the USC men’s volleyball team… lists NFL MVP Tom Brady as her biggest sports hero… majoring in politics, political science, and law (PPL).
