THIS YEAR: Junior Elias Gerald is in his third season as a high jumper for the USC track and field team. He ranks tied for ninth on USC's all-time outdoor high jump list and fifth on its indoor high jump list.
2024: Gerald had a very consistent season, competing in eight outdoor meets and jumping between 6-10.75 and 7-1.75 in all of them. He won the high jump at the Trojan Invitational on March 23 (6-10.75), the Mt. SAC Relays on April 19 (6-11.50), the Dual Meet on April 28 (6-10.75) and at the Pac-12 Championships on May 12 (7-1.75/2.18)…The Pac-12 title, his second, was contested indoors due to weather and his clearance was his collegiate indoor PR and moved him to fifth on USC’s all-time indoor list. He jumped an outdoor season best of 7-1.50 (2.17m) to match his PR and tie for seventh at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 24. He advanced to the NCAA Championships and tied for 11th with a jump of 6-11.50 (2.12m) to earn second-team All-America honors. He also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 42-7.50/12.99m (+0.0) and fourth in the long jump with a PR of 24-5.00/7.44m (-0.3) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 28. He placed 10th in the long jump at the Pac-12 Championships (23-9.00) on May 10. He competed in six indoor meets, winning four and taking third in the two others.

PERSONAL: Elias was born December 8, 2003 in Provo, Ut… His parents are Jarrah and Danor Gerald and he has three siblings, Isaiah, Sariah and Asenath… He enjoys gaming and practicing martial arts…Lists martial arts expert Bruce Lee as his biggest sports hero, due to the fact that his mind was as strong as his body…Aspires to continue his sports career postgraduate…He is majoring in Communication.Â

2023: Gerald won the high jump in six of the eight meets he competed in as a freshman. He won the Pac-12 high jump title with a clearance of 6-11.50 (2.12m). He advanced out of the NCAA West Prelims tied for first with a PR of 7-1.50 (2.17m) and moved to tied for ninth on USC’s all-time list. He just missed out on first-team All-America honors in the high jump by placing ninth at the NCAA Championships on June 9 with a best clearance of 7-1.00 (2.16m), earning second-team honors. He also won high jump titles at the Florida Relays, Trojan Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays and USC-UCLA Dual Meet. He competed in five indoor meets, with a best clearance of 6-9.00 (2.06m) to place fourth at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet on Feb. 25. Also competed in the long jump at Cougar Classic on Jan. 13 and had a best jump of 21-9.00 (6.63m) to place seventh.
HIGH SCHOOL: Gerald, from Saratoga Springs, Utah, is a 2022 graduate of Westlake HS in Saratoga Springs, Utah. He was named the 2022 Gatorade Utah Boy’s Track & Field Player of the Year. He won the Utah high jump and long jump titles his last two years of high school. He also placed second in the 110m hurdles. His outdoor PR of 7-0.25 is a Utah 6A state record. He won the NIKE Indoors high jump title. He jumped 7-2 indoors to rank No.1 among high schoolathletes. His long jump best is 23-3.50 (7.09m).
