Bio
THIS SEASON: A talented distance freestyler who is also valuable in the medley and fly events, 2006 senior Mike Kauffman looks to return to the NCAA Championships after a year away. Improving in the 400 IM, Kauffman is posed to have a great final season at Troy.
2005: Kauffman competed in three races at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, taking 11th in the 400y IM (3:52.42), 13th in the 200y fly (1:50.37) and 18th in the 500y free (4:26.40) ... At the 2005 U.S. World Championships Trials, he was 25th in the 400m IM.
2004: Kauffman, as a 2004 sophomore, made his NCAA Championships debut, competing in three events. He was 25th in the 1500m free (15:26.94) and 43rd in the 400m free (3:54.84). He also competed in the 400m IM, but was disqualified. At the 2004 Pac-10 Championships, Kauffman was fifth in the 1650y free (15:17.28), seventh in the 500y free (4:24.19) and 12th in the 400y IM (3:53.69) ... He competed in the 400y IM and the 200y fly at the 2004 U.S. Summer Nationals.
2003: Kauffman reached the finals of a pair of events at the 2003 Pac-10s as a freshman. He was fifth in the 1650y free (15:18.94) and seventh in the 500y free (4:24.98) ... At the 2003 U.S. Spring Nationals, Kauffman competed in the 400m and 1500m free ... At the 2003 U.S. Summer Nationals, he was 35th in the 1500m free (16:04.45).
HIGH SCHOOL: Kauffman prepped at Parkview High in Liburn, Ga., where he was team captain as a junior and a senior ... Earned All-American honors in the 200y and 500y free as a senior, junior and sophomore ... Won the Georgia state championship in the 500y free from 1999-2002 and the 200y free from 2000-2002 ... Led his prep team to the state championship the last three years and was named the 2002 Georgia 5-A Co-Swimmer of the Year ... He owns the state record in the 500y free ... Competed at the 2002 U.S. Spring Nationals in the 400m IM, 400m free and 200m fly.
