THIS SEASON: Mark Jurek, a 2020 senior co-captain, is a versatile swimmer who is strong in the IM and fly looking to increase his dual meet and postseason scoring while earning his first NCAA trip. A Pac-12 A finalist, he is among USC's top 10 fastest swimmers ever in the 200y fly and 400y IM.
2019: Jurek reached his first conference A final as a 2019 junior, finishing seventh in the 200y fly in 1:44.41. He was also 15th in the 400y IM (3:51.21) at the Pac-12 meet and 19th in the 200y IM (1:48.29) … At the Texas Invitational, Jurek was 11th in the 200y fly (1:45.29) and 24th in the 200y IM (1:49.76).
2018: Jurek was a two-time Pac-12 Championships B finalist as a 2018 sophomore, taking 10th in the 400y IM (PR 3:46.52) and 11th in the 200y fly (1:43.96). He was also 22nd in the 200y IM (1:47.29) … He was also a two-time B finalist at the Texas Invitational, finishing 12th in the 200y fly (1:45.70) and 16th in the 200y IM (1:48.73) … He raced twice at the 2018 U.S. Summer Nationals, finishing 60th in the 400m IM (4:39.48) and 65th in the 200m fly (2:04.05) … He was named to the Pac-12’s All-Academic honorable mention team.
2017: Jurek competed in three events at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships as a freshman, topped by a ninth in the 400y IM (4:47.30) and 13th-place finishes in the 200y IM (1:46.18) and the 200y fly (1:44.53). His times in the 400y IM and 200y fly were USC's second fastest time in the events last year.
HIGH SCHOOL: Jurek prepped at Chandler (Ariz.) High, where he won six Arizona state titles. He won the 200y IM three times (2013-14-15), the 100y fly twice (2013-14) and the 200y free (2015). His 1:47.03 in the 200y IM in 2014 was a state record, as was his 47.80 in the 100y fly in 2013 ... He was a 2015 Speedo Junior National winner in the 200y fly (1:58.81) and the 100y fly (54.77) ... He competed in three events at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, racing in the 100m and 200m fly and the 400m IM ... He was the 2013 and 2015 azcentral.com sports Swimmer of the Year.
