Marcel Renteria enters his first season as the Director of Player Development for USC baseball heading into the 2027 season.

Renteria, a former sixth-round pick of the New York Mets, came to USC after serving as the Director of Throwing and Pitching Development for Push Performance. While with Push, Renteria developed MLB, MiLB, collegiate and high school arms using advanced pitching technology such as; Trackman, Qualisys Motion Capture, Force Plates, and high-speed video. He also brings extensive return-to-throw and pitching rehabilitation experience.

The Nogales, Ariz. native spent two seasons at New Mexico State before being selected in the 2017 MLB Draft, compiling a 12-7 record and a 4.76 ERA in 32 appearances. The righty posted 165 strikeouts through 158.2 innings of work.

After being selected by the Mets with pick No. 187, Renteria spent six seasons playing professional baseball, reaching the triple-A level in 2021 before transitioning to coaching in 2023.

Renteria is also a Master’s candidate in Strength and Conditioning.
