Following three consecutive games with nighttime kickoffs -- and five of the last six with a late start -- the Trojans are lining up for a wake-up-and-play 12:30 p.m. matchup against Stanford this weekend.
And Coach Carroll, the master of meticulousness, is making sure the players' body clocks are adjusting now for the earlier kickoff. Already this week, he's repeatedly referred to the time difference, and he's even taken measures to prepare for the early game. A few plays are being cut out of each practice to save the players' legs -- since they won't have all day Saturday to rest -- and Carroll has been encouraging the players to mentally prepare for the lunchtime game by thinking about the early kickoff "wherever you are at 12:30 every day this week, whether in class, tutoring or at home."
"Kickoff's coming up quick," Carroll said. "It's coming fast, coming early -- just the way we like it."
