- Down two with three snaps to go, the offense won the pair of penultimate plays to set up a tiebreaking, pressure-packed final snap on Competition Tuesday. Offensive coaches carefully schemed for the last play as linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. joked to the defense, "If we don't win this, there will be no dinner tonight!" And on the deciding snap, Matt Barkley rolled out to the left and threw across his body to an open Rhett Ellison, who snagged the reception to give the offense an 8-7 come-from-behind victory in the competition-themed workout. Offensive players ribbed their counterparts with shouts of "No dinner!" as Coach Carroll hailed the practice a "big, big win for the offense today."
- The offense had a clean sweep Tuesday, capturing victories in 7-on-7 and pass rush competitions to go along with the triumph in the final period.
- Tight end Anthony McCoy (ankle) lightly participated in parts of practice, and Carroll said he was "encouraged" by his activity but will continue to wait to make a decision on his status for Saturday.
- Fullback Stanley Havili (shoulder) took part in all of practice and is on track to start against Stanford.
- Wideout Damian Williams remained sidelined with an ankle injury. Joe McKnight will fill the punt return duties if Williams cannot play Saturday, Carroll said.
- Linebacker Malcolm Smith (shoulder) completed some parts of practice and his status for the game remains up in the air. Shane Horton will start for the second consecutive game if Smith is out.
- Carroll ruled linebacker Jarvis Jones (neck) out for Saturday's game.
- Famous TV personality Roy Firestone attended practice.
