Thoughts from Monday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- The first practice since Saturday's defeat saw the Trojans hustle through a brief helmets-only workout on Howard Jones Field, officially closing out the Oregon loss and commencing Arizona State game week. "Let's make sure that each day we take a step," Coach Carroll said in the post-practice team huddle. "Every day we've got to take a step toward this weekend."
- The practice field could have been confused for an infirmary, with several players sitting out of Monday's workout. Linebacker Chris Galippo (neck), wideout Damian Williams (glute), tailback Joe McKnight (ankle), linebacker Jarvis Jones (neck), defensive end Nick Perry (shoulder) and defensive end Everson Griffen (toe) all watched practice from the sideline Monday. The prognoses for all players will be determined after doctor visits on Tuesday night.
- Wideout Ronald Johnson missed practice with an illness, Carroll said.
- Defensive lineman Armond Armstead practiced with a cast on his hand and is expected to be able to play through the fractured wrist injury suffered Saturday, Carroll said.
- With Malcolm Smith (shoulder) out indefinitely, Shane Horton will start in his place at the weakside linebacker position, Carroll said.
- Thanks to the recent daylight savings clock change, almost all of Monday's practice was conducted under the lights.
