Thoughts from Thursday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- The Trojans hustled through a quick half-pads practice that featured loads of competitive 11-on-11 work, leaving just a brief scrimmage-based workout on Friday morning between the Trojans and a full weekend off. "This has been a great week," Coach Carroll said. "It's been a really upbeat week, and the guys have really done a great job. We've gotten everything done that we wanted to get done."
- In a practice-ending scrimmage-like session on short fields, all three offensive units scored on their respective defenses. Matt Barkley's first-unit offense went 31 yards to set up a 24-yard Jordan Congdon field goal, Aaron Corp's second-unit offense finished with a seven-yard C.J. Gable touchdown run and Mitch Mustain's third-unit offense scored on the first play when Mustain connected with wideout De'Von Flourney for a 35-yard bomb.
- Wideout Ronald Johnson continued to participate in full-speed drills, though he remained in a gold no-contact jersey.
- Coach Carroll highlighted Flournoy, tailback Curtis McNeal and safeties T.J. McDonald and Jawanza Starling as some younger players who took advantage of their increased workload this week.
- For the second straight day, the defense essentially shut down the offense, outhitting the offense and capturing an 11-9 victory in the practice-ending team period.
- The Trojans finished practice Thursday evening only about 13 hours before their next one early Friday morning, a pre-sunrise workout at 6:30 a.m. "See you in three hours!" one player joked at the end of the Thursday's practice.
