Thoughts from Wednesday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- After several close calls throughout the full-pads workout, the defense finally got its takeaway on the second-to-last play of the day when cornerback T.J. Bryant scooped up a short Matt Barkley bullet pass on a mis-run route by the wideout. The offense came so close to capturing its second straight turnover-free Wednesday of the season, but ended up falling just short.
- Though it lost the turnover battle, the offense recorded a 13-12 overall practice victory thanks to tailback Allen Bradford's powerful run up the gut to break a 12-12 tie. "That's a bittersweet win for the offense," Coach Carroll said in the post-practice team huddle.
- On the final play of 7-on-7 period, tailback Joe McKnight caught a screen pass before colliding into linebacker Ross Cumming at the goal line. It turned out to be a win-win situation, as McKnight rolled into the end zone for the touchdown and Cumming posted the biggest hit of the day, one that thrilled his defensive teammates.
- Wideout Damian Williams had an overall big day, but two of his catches were especially stunning. During 7-on-7 period, Williams dove in the front corner of the end zone to snag a touchdown pass from Aaron Corp, and then in team period, Williams was the recipient of a perfect deep ball from Matt Barkley. Both catches showed off Williams' ability to create space even against strong coverage.
- Beach volleyball legend Jim Menges attended practice, along with Dodger icon Ron Cey.
