A day after their first two-a-day of the fall, the Trojans will conduct a walk-thru at 10 a.m. before practicing this afternoon at 4. Much of the morning session will focus on special teams before the offense and defense will run through 20 plays -- sans footballs of course, in accordance with NCAA rules.
As related to walk-thrus, RipsIt reader Mike Mitchell sent in this great question: "What exactly is the purpose of the walk-through practice without pads or footballs?"
The Trojans use the walk-thrus, which are held every day that there isn't a two-a-day, mostly as mental reviews. Though footballs and pads aren't present, the players run the workout at full speed so they can get what coaches call "mental reps," giving a physical reinforcement of the plays they're learning in meetings.
The walk-thrus also help review plays from the previous practice and introduce work that will be fully implemented in the afternoon session.
