Throughout the season, USCRipsIt will be taking you into the off-the-field life of a player, showing you what goes on behind the scenes through "Inside the Life." In this weekly series written by staff writer Courtney Kalisz, we'll bring you into the daily life of a player and reveal the details that fill a student-athlete's schedule while off the field. Here's the series introduction, with subsequent installments being published every Tuesday:
Being a student-athlete at a Division I school is both a rewarding and demanding experience. Here at USC, with one of the premier football programs in the nation, our student-athletes thrive in the rigorous environment that they know simply as their everyday life.
My name is Courtney Kalisz, a former swimmer at USC and on the USA National Team, whose career was cut short by a devastating ankle injury. I spent a year as a Trojan student-athlete, and in that time I experienced all the aspects of USC athlete life. From the training room fighting off injuries, to study hall, to dinner with other student-athletes at the Galen Café, and of course practice, I discovered the pride and challenges that comes with being a Trojan athlete.
With my unique insight into what it's like to be a student-athlete here, I will be composing a series that highlights all of the aspects that comprise the lives of the USC football players. The mission of this series is to allow the most passionate fans of the USC Trojans first-hand access into learning exactly what it's like to be a Trojan. We hope you enjoy!
