It's all about turnovers today at Heritage Hall, so Coach Carroll is emphasizing the all-important turnover margin stat during this afternoon's meetings and practice.
The Trojans finished the 2008 season at plus-7, while San Jose State, USC's opening-day opponent in 10 days, was one better at plus-8.
More importantly, the Trojans are 47-0 in the last 47 games they've had more takeaways than giveaways.
"I don't know how much clearer that we can be -- 47 straight wins," Carroll said in this afternoon's team meeting. "It is the most important factor in our football. We can't stress it enough."
