A newly minted walk-on punter, Roepke was a member of the USC swimming team in 2008 before quitting so he could train for football tryouts this spring. He raced in three events at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships and was a four-year All-American swimmer at Reno (Nev.) High, but he wanted to stop swimming and give the gridiron a try, especially since he won all-state honors as a punter in high school.
And lo and behold, the 5-9, 180-pound sophomore made the team on March 28 and has been practicing ever since.
"It's been amazing -- a dream come true," Roepke said of his new-found USC football career.
