Legendary USC men's basketball head coach Bob Boyd will have his No. 19 retired to the Galen Center rafters, senior associate athletic director Steve Lopes announced at Boyd's memorial on Sunday.
He was a three-year letterman (1950-52) at Troy before dedicating his career to coaching. As the head man, Boyd's Trojans went 216-131 overall from 1967 through 1979 and played in the postseason four times (the 1979 NCAA playoffs, 1973 NIT and 1974 and 1975 Commissioner's Conference tourney). His 1971 Trojan team, which went 24-2 and was ranked No. 5 nationally (Troy was No. 1 at midseason), is regarded among USC's best (he also won 24 games in 1974).
