Former USC men's basketball head coach George Raveling was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday. Raveling, the first black head coach in what is now the Pac-12 conference, coached the Trojans from 1986 to 1994, including two NCAA tournament appearances. He was voted the National Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1994. Raveling now works at Nike as the director of international basketball.
While Raveling made history in the world of basketball, he also witnessed one of the greatest moments in history when he was hired to work security for the March on Washington in 1963. Standing just several feet from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he concluded his "I have a dream" speech, Raveling courageously asked for the original copy. King said yes, and Raveling has held on to the notes for the 50 years since.
