THIS SEASON: An excellent medley and backstroke swimmer who is also strong in the free, 2005 senior Stacy Vazhenin hopes to become an NCAA point scorer in her final year with the Trojans.
2005: Vazhenin made a trip to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row as a 2006 junior, taking 38th in both the 500y free (4:51.21) and the 400y IM (4:24.67) and 44th in the 200y back (2:01.65) ... At the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, she was eighth in the 500y free (4:52.66), ninth in the 400y IM (4:16.57) and 17th in the 200y back (2:00.95) ... She raced in three events at the 2005 U.S. World Championships Trials, finishing 41st in the 400m free (4:28.83), 42nd in the 200m back (2:25.73) and 49th in the 400m IM (5:07.96).
2004: Vazhenin competed in four events in her first appearance at the 2004 NCAA Championships as a 2004 sophomore. She was 33rd in the 400m IM (4:48.41, scm), 37th in the 200m back (2:16.10, scm) and 42nd in the 400m free (4:13.28, scm). She also raced on USC[apos]s 400m medley relay ... At the 2004 Pac-10s, she was fifth in the 500y free and won a pair of consolation finals in the 200y back and the 400y IM.
2003: Vazhenin competed in three events at the Pac-10 Championships as a 2003 freshman, reaching a pair of consolation finals. She was 10th in the 200y back (2:01.65) and 14th in the 400y IM (4:25.22). She was also 29th in the 200y IM (2:05.90) ... At the 2003 U.S. Summer Nationals, she competed in the 100m and 200m back as well as the 200m and 400m free..
HIGH SCHOOL: Vazhenin swam for Holy Innocents[apos] Episcopal in Narcross, Ga., where she set a state record in the 100y back (57.19) in 2001 and was second in the 200y IM that same year ...She was on honor roll her freshman, sophomore and senior years ... She was 15th in the 200m back at the 2001 Summer Nationals ... She competed for the Russian National team in 2002 at the Short Course World Championships (held in Moscow) and with the Russian junior team in 2000. At the 2002 Short Course Worlds, she was 14th in the 200m back (2:12.68) ... At the 2000 Junior European Championships, she was sixth in the 200m back and was on the winning 400m medley relay ... She has won several medals at various Russian national meets.
PERSONAL: She was born on Aug. 23, 1984 ... She is majoring in international relations and minoring in international economics and Russian ... She was born in Moscow, Russia ... Her father, Igor, was a member of the Russian Olympic team in 1984 and her mother, Irena, was a Russian national champion ... Her full first name is Anastacia ... She enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling, dancing and playing golf.
