USC Women’s Track and Field Advances Nine Trojans to Quarterfinals, Erasmus Breaks Own Shot Put School Record

The Women of Troy will be back in action on Saturday to punch their tickets in track events
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The USC women's track and field team advanced runners to Saturday's quarterfinal in five events and Ashley Erasmus punched her ticket to Eugene in record-breaking fashion on day two of the NCAA West Regional Championships at John McDonnell Field.
Erasmus placed second with a new school record of 18.30m (60-0.5), breaking her own record of 18.07m set at the Pacific Coast Invitational earlier this season. She will compete in the semifinals in Eugene and look to add a second event with discus first rounds on Saturday.
On the track side, Trojans advanced in the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 100m, 200m and 400m. The 100m hurdles started the day with Asjah Atkinson (13.23) and Lillian Harden (13.28) advancing to Saturday's quarterfinal.
In the 100m, all four Women of Troy advanced with Brianna Selby leading the way in 11.13. Dajaz DeFrand won her heat in 11.21 and Mia Brahe-Pedersen secured the second spot in her heat to qualify at 11.27. Rachael Uvieghara picked up a qualifying spot based on her time of 11.36.
Madison Whyte and Joelle Trepagnier clocked fast times out of the 400m heats to qualify for quarterfinals. Whyte won her heat in 51.88 and Trepagnier ran a new personal best of 52.36 in her first collegiate regionals appearance. The 400m hurdles followed with Falyn Lott qualifying automatically with a time of 57.37.
In the women's 200m to close the day, Dajaz DeFrand (22.57), Christine Mallard (22.84) and Rachael Uvieghara (23.07) all advanced with automatic qualifying spots out of their heats.
