USC Track and Field Scores 11 Points, Advances Seven Trojans to Event Finals on Day One of Big Ten Outdoor Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. — The USC track and field team got points on the board from field events on day one of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at the Nebraska Outdoor Track. The Trojan men end the day tied for third place with 11 points while the women have yet to have a Trojan compete in event finals.
The men's throwers came up big in hammer throw and javelin. In hammer throw, the Lampinen brothers scored a total of eight points towards the team score. Mico Lampinen broke his personal best and continues to hold the No. 9 mark in program history at 69.89m (229-3) to place fourth. Max Lampinen took sixth place with a mark of 66.99 (219-9).
In men's javelin, Tom Tersek threw for a new personal best of 67.98 (223-0) to place sixth and score three more points for the Trojans. His mark is No. 6 all-time at USC and comes within four feet of the freshman record.
In addition to points scored, several Trojans put themselves in position to score on Sunday by advancing out of the 400m hurdles and 200m preliminary heats. In women's 400m hurdles, Falyn Lott advanced with a time of 58.79. Yougendy Mauricette moved onto finals on the men's side in the third position with a time of 50.63. In the women's 200m, Madison Whyte (22.40w), Dajaz DeFrand (22.63w), Christine Mallard (22.69w) and Rachael Uvieghara (22.81w) all advanced. Eddie Nketia will compete in finals on Sunday in the 200m on the men's side in 20.29w.
