No. 17 USC Baseball Falls Just Short at No. 16 Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. –The No. 17 USC baseball team came up just short against No. 16 Oregon on Friday night, falling 4-3 to even the series and force a rubber match on Saturday.
USC falls to 42-13 overall with the loss and 20-9 in Big Ten play. Oregon moves to 37-15, 19-10 with the win.
After Jack Basseer tripled to lead off the inning, the Trojans grabbed an early lead with an RBI-groundout from Augie Lopez and a run-scoring single from Walter Urbon to take a 2-0 lead in the second.
The advantage lasted until the Ducks put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth, getting a three-run homer and a solo-shot. One of the Oregon runs was unearned after a USC error allowed a runner to reach in the inning.
The Trojans loaded the bases with one out in both the seventh and eighth innings but were only able to score once on a groundout in the eighth to cut it to a one-run game.
Gavin Lauridsen had a stellar relief appearance to keep USC in the game, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings after taking over in the fifth. Lauridsen did not allow a hit.
