LOS ANGELES — The No. 13 USC women's tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play in dominant fashion on Friday, sweeping Sacramento State 4-0 at Marks Tennis Stadium to advance to the second round.
The Trojans wasted little time establishing control, securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The pair of Dani Borruel and Eugenia Zozaya struck first with a 6-2 victory on court two, before the nationally ranked duo of No. 27 Lily Fairclough and Krisha Mahendran clinched the point with a 6-3 decision on center court.Â
Carrying that momentum into singles, USC delivered a clean and efficient close. Dani Borruel extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win on court six, and Lily Fairclough followed shortly after with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court five to make it 3-0.Â
The clincher came from No. 23 Jana Hossam on the top court. After cruising through the first set 6-0, Hossam battled through a tighter second frame before sealing the match with a 7-5 finish, securing the 4-0 sweep for the Trojans.Â
Several other matches were left unfinished with USC in strong position, underscoring the team's depth in the opening-round performance.
With the victory, USC advances to the NCAA Second Round, continuing its postseason run on its home courts at Marks Stadium. Tomorrow, USC will play No. 23 Cal at noon PT, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Super Regional next weekend. Fans in attendance will receive free hot dogs.
The Second Round match offers the Trojans an opportunity for redemption, having fallen to the Golden Bears earlier this season. The Women of Troy will also look to finish out 2026 undefeated at home as the Trojans are currently 10-0 at Marks Stadium this spring.Â
