USC Lacrosse Drops 11-5 Road Decision to No. 6 Northwestern

Kaylee Fravert delivered her eighth-career hat trick in a game against the Wildcats
EVANSTON, Ill. – The USC lacrosse team (6-8, 0-6 Big Ten) fell to sixth-ranked Northwestern (9-3, 3-1) in an 11-5 decision at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium—on Lacrosse Day in Chicago—on Saturday, April 4.

- So. attacker Kaylee Fravert led the Trojans in scoring with three goals to log her fourth hat trick of the season—the eighth of her career—and picked up three ground balls to go with a caused turnover.
- Fr. attacker Lily Neilson scored her first collegiate goal and picked up a ground ball.
- Fr. midfielder Sydney Stewart scored a goal, picked up a ground ball, and had a draw control and a caused turnover.
- Jr. attacker Emma Bunting dished out three assists, caused a turnover, and grabbed a ground ball.
- Jr. attacker Reese Robinson raked in a pair of draw controls and had an assist.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hollis Mulry caused four turnovers and nabbed four ground balls.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hannah Barron picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
- So. goalie Ellie Thomas faced 17 shots in the second half and produced six saves and grabbed a ground ball.
- For the Wildcats, Madison Taylor had six points (4g, 2a) and Aditi Foster had three goals to lead the way. Four other Cats scored one goal apiece. Madison Smith secured seven draw controls. Jaylen Rosga picked up four ground balls and had three caused turnovers. In goal, Jenika Cuocco had nine saves in the win.
- The Wildcats outshot the Trojans, 33-22, and had more shots on goal by a 19-14 edge. Both teams had 21 ground balls apiece but Northwestern won the center circle by a 12-6 count in draw controls.
- Northwestern scored four goals in the first quarter and held the Trojans scoreless for 26:38 until Bunting found Neilson for a goal with 3:22 left to play in the first half. The Wildcats went into halftime with a 6-1 lead.
- Fravert—who had a goal called off in the first quarter because of a foul—was the beneficiary of a pass from Bunting and scored the second USC goal (10:51) to open the third. The Wildcats responded to get a pair of goals from Taylor and one from Maddie Epke to end the third with a 9-2 lead.
- Foster scored the first goal of the fourth to give the Wildcats a 10-2 lead, but USC scored the next three—two Fravert goals to sandwich a goal by Stewart—and pulled within five of Northwestern, 10-5, with 2:51 left to play. The Trojans won the next draw but couldn't prevent the Cats from scoring one more to end the game, 11-5.
- USC stays on the road to take on Central Michigan (2-10, 1-3 MAC) in a nonconference game on Monday (April 6) in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The teams will meet at CMU Lacrosse Complex at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) on Chippewas All-Access.
- USC fell to 2-6 all-time against Northwestern. The Wildcats have won three straight including both as Big Ten foes.
- The Trojans moved to 2-4 in road games this season.
- The Women of Troy lost their sixth straight game.
- The 5,805 fans in attendance as part of Lacrosse Day in Chicago set a new NU attendance record for a home game.
