March 09, 2026 | Women's Golf
USC leads the field by 14 strokes and three Trojans are currently in the top five.
ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. — Starting strong on its home course, the No. 2 USC Women's Golf team leads the field and three players are in the top five after the first two rounds of its inaugural GameAbove Invitational, held at Rolling Hills Country Club on Monday, March 9.
Despite battling intermittent winds throughout the day, USC was the only team to finish below par and leads the field with a 563 (-13) on its home course. No. 4 Texas A&M (577, +1) co-hosts Eastern Michigan (585, +9), No. 3 Oregon (586, +10) and SMU (588, +12) round out the top five teams. Additionally, Kylie Chong and Bailey Shoemaker are 1-2 in the individual leaderboard with scores of 137 (-7) and 139 (-5), respectively, while Catherine Park is tied for fifth with a 143 (-1). No other team has multiple players in the top five.
After finishing her first round in the top five with a 71 (-1), sophomore Kylie Chong sprang to the top of the leaderboard with a bogey-free 66 (-6) that tied her lowest collegiate round. She started with two birdies on the front side before finishing strong with four birdies on the back side — including three-straight from Nos. 14-16 — to take the lead.
Junior Bailey Shoemaker led the tournament after the first round with a 68 (-4) that featured five birdies and just one bogey. Despite some trouble with three bogeys on the front side of the second round, Shoemaker pushed her score below par with an eagle on the par-5, 530 No. 15 — her first of the season — to finish with a 71 (-1). Shoemaker and Chong are the only two players to fire two rounds below par this tournament.
Senior Catherine Park shook off a 74 (+2) in the first round to break into the top five after firing a 69 (-3) in the second round. In her second round, Park's lone bogey was on the No. 1 to start the round, then the senior bounced back with back-to-back birdies on the front side before having two more birdies on Nos. 10 and 12. She is tied for fifth with Eastern Michigan's Baiyok Sukterm heading into the final round.
Sophomore Elise Lee finished in a tie for 16th with a two-round score of 147 (+3). Lee fired a 73 in the first round that had three birdies and four bogeys before wrapping up the day with a 74 (+2) in the second round.
Freshman Sarah Hammett opened the day with a 71 (-1) in the first round that had her in a tie for seventh place. Hammett had just one birdie and one bogey to stay at par on the front side before firing four birdies in the first six holes on the back side. Then in the second round, Hammett found trouble on the front side with two bogeys and two double bogeys before having one birdie on the No. 15.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Jasmine Koo is also tied for 22nd place. She bounced back from firing a 76 (+4) in the first round to fire a 72 (E) in the second round. Koo had no birdies and four bogeys in the first round, but had three birdies and three bogeys in the second.
As USC's other player competing as an individual, Chloe Kim is in a tie for 44th with a two-round score of 155 (+11).
Tomorrow's final round will begin for USC at 8:55 a.m. PT. The round will be livestreamed for free on CGN's YouTube channel. All pertinent links can be found on the USC women's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
