The Trojans won 3-2 in the consolation match.
ATLANTA — The No. 2 USC Women's Golf Team wrapped up its stint in the East Lake Cup with a 3-2 win over Eastern Michigan in the consolation match at the East Lake Golf Club on Wednesday.
USC took the lead in three matches and didn't look back en route to the win. This is the team's first match play win of the season. The win helped the Trojans match last year's 1-1 record in East Lake Cup match play.
In Kylie Chong's 5&4 win over Costanza Quiroga, the junior took the lead with a birdie on No. 4 and didn't look back en route to the win. Chong didn't concede a hole throughout the round. She had three birdies to just one bogey throughout the match.
Fellow junior Jasmine Koo had the most lopsided victory of the day with a 6&5 win over Laura Gorgees Baeta. Koo was up by five thanks to three birdies on the front side, then extended her lead to six with a birdie on No. 10. Gorgees Baeta won her lone hole of the match on No. 11, but Koo wrapped up the win two holes later.
Although Eastern Michigan got on the board to make the score 2-1, sophomore Sarah Hammett clinched the win with a 2&1 win over Karen Tsuru. In a match where she never trailed, Hammett won the first two holes and extender he lead to four on the back side. However, Tsuru mounted a comeback attempt by winning three consecutive holes to pull within one on No. 15, yet Hammett won No. 16 and parred No. 17 to seal the win.
At the time of Hammett's clinch, Eastern Michigan's Baiyok Sukterm was up by two over Elise Lee through 15 holes.
The Trojans will return to action in the spring with the Battle of LA, held at the Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif. on Jan. 22, 2027. All pertinent schedule information is on the women's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
