Lauridsen, Edwards Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors
March 23, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES -- After leading the No. 12 USC baseball team to a two-hit shutout against Washington, Mason Edwards and Gavin Lauridsen earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday (March 23).
Edwards was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, and Lauridsen earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the first such award for the righty.
In a 5-0 shutout of the Huskies on Friday night, Edwards tossed 6.0 innings, giving up just one hit and three walks, while striking out a career-high 12 batters. He allowed just one runner past first base through the first five innings of the game, and stranded runners on second and third in the sixth. The outing lowered the junior lefty's ERA to an NCAA best 0.25 for the season.
Lauridsen tossed the final 3.0 innings to earn his second save of the season, giving up just one hit and one walk, while also setting a new career high with four strikeouts. It was the seventh scoreless relief outing of the season for Lauridsen, who is the first reliever this year to earn Big Ten freshman honors.
Edwards earned back-to-back Pitcher of the Week awards on March 2 and March 9, as USC has now earned all but one of the conference's pitcher of the week honors. Grant Govel took home the award on opening weekend (Feb. 16) and last week on March 16.
