Grant Govel Named National and Big Ten Pitcher of the Week
February 16, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – After leading the USC baseball team to a seven-inning no-hitter against Pepperdine this weekend, USC's Grant Govel was named both the National and Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. Govel picked up national honors from both Perfect Game and the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Trojans took down the Waves 11-0 on Saturday, ending the game in the seventh inning due to the 10-run lead after seven innings run rule. Govel tossed 6.0 hitless innings in the effort, setting career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts. It was the first no-hitter by a Trojan ball club since USC got a nine-inning combined no-hitter in 2018.
Govel allowed just two baserunners all game, walking one and hitting another with a pitch. He retired 11 batters in a row at one point and had a run of five straight strikeouts during the game. Overall, Govel struck out 10 batters to just his one walk.
Cameron Faussett would finish the game with a hitless top of the seventh inning and Andrew Lamb walked it off with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 11-0.
For Govel, it is his first career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Award. He did earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors last season on Feb. 24.
USC swept Pepperdine on opening weekend and will look to improve on its 3-0 record on Wednesday against LMU at home.
