January 23, 2026 | Women's Golf
The Trojans won their third-straight match play event over UCLA on Friday.
LA QUINTA, Calif. — Winning its third-consecutive match play event over UCLA, the No. 2 USC women's golf team beat the No. 23 Bruins 3.5-1.5 in the Battle of LA, held at the Rancho La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif. on Friday, Jan. 23.
USC convincingly won the head-to-head match, putting up two big wins from Elise Lee and Kylie Chong before Sarah Hammett's 2&1 win over Maye Huang sealed the victory.
Friday's win gave USC 10 more points in the Crosstown Cup, making the score 35-25 in favor of the Trojans. This was USC's third-consecutive match play win over UCLA dating back to the 2025 East Lake Cup.
Elise Lee put the first point on the board for USC with a 4&3 win over Jenny Lee. The sophomore won two out of the first three holes and didn't look back. A birdie on the par-4 6th hole put Lee up three strokes and she quickly wrapped up her match to put USC up 1-0.
Although UCLA tied the match with GaEun Athena Yoo's win, the Trojans reclaimed the lead with a win from Kylie Chong. Chong also never trailed in her match: She went up three holes after winning the 7th and lost just two holes before beating Jennifer Seo 3&2.
Shortly after Chong's victory, Sarah Hammett gave USC the win with a 2&1 over Maye Huang. The freshman never trailed in her match, but needed to fend off a late surge from Huang after the UCLA sophomore pulled within one hole on the 14th. Yet Hammett pulled away by winning the 15th and 17th to seal the 2&1 win.
After Hammett won the match, Catherine Park and Kacey Ly finished out their match. The two players tied after 18 holes.
