No. 6 USC Women's Soccer Falls to Stanford, 5-1
September 04, 2025 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The No. 6 USC women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday, falling to No. 1 Stanford, 5-1, at home.
The Trojans fall to 3-1-1 with the loss, while Stanford moves to 6-0-1.
The visiting Cardinal came in leading the country in scoring with 5.0 goals per game and matched that output thanks to three goals in the last 13 minutes. Prior to the three-goal outburst, however, it was a tightly contested match, with USC holding an edge in possession at 54%. The Trojans also had four corners to just two for Stanford.
Andrea Kitahata scored for the Cardinal in the 25th minute, and Stanford would take a 1-0 edge into the break. USC managed four shots in the opening half, but were unable to put one on frame.
Eleanor Klinger doubled the Stanford lead in the 78th minute with the first of two goals for the sophomore.
Jaiden Anderson gave USC life in the 80th minute, making it a 2-1 game after finishing off a beautiful feed from Maribel Flores for her third goal of the year.
The Trojans were unable to capitalize, though, as Stanford scored in the 83rd and 86th minutes to put the game out of reach.

The Trojans open Big Ten play next week, hosting Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m. That matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
