USC Women's Soccer Dominates Maryland, 3-0

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's soccer team was firing on all cylinders at home on Thursday night, taking down Maryland 3-0 in a dominant performance.
The Trojans held 60% of the possession and allowed just four shots all game, getting goals from three different players to pick up the Big Ten win. USC moves to 5-3-1 overall on the season with the victory and 2-2 in Big Ten play, while Maryland falls to 6-5, 2-2.
Maribel Flores opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a brilliant free kick strike from just outside the area for her team-leading sixth goal of the year. Katie Park would draw a penalty in the 38th minute and converted the PK as USC took a 2-0 lead into the half. The Trojans third goal came late as Eleanor Morrissey connected on a long pass with Hana Mizumoto, who chipped it over a charging Maryland keeper to make it 3-0.
The Trojan defense kept Maryland in check all night, giving up just one shot in the first half and three in the second. Bella Grust had to make just one save to pick up her fourth shutout of the year. USC had a 15-4 shots advantage and 5-2 corner kick advantage in the game.
GOALS
7' – USC: Maribel Flores (unassisted) – USC was awarded a free kick outside the top left of the penalty area and Flores fired a shot from 22 yards out that went inside the upper right corner.
38' – USC: Katie Park (PK) – Park was taken down from behind in the area and then converted the penalty shot inside the left post.
89' – USC: Hana Mizumoto (assisted by Eleanor Morrissey) – Morrissey played a ball forward from beyond the half line and Mizumoto ran onto it and then chipped the charging keeper with one touch from over 25 yards out.
