August 27, 2025 | Track & Field
The junior thrower achieved first place surpassing the championship record on his second throw.
ASUNCION, Paraguay – On Friday, the final day of the II Junior Pan American Games Asuncion 2025, Racquil Broderick showed out in the discus throw as he surpassed the championship record to win gold for Jamaica.
Broderick earned the victory with a throw of 61.79 meters on his second attempt to beat out the previous meet record of 61.08 meters set by Lucas Nervi of Chile. Other attempts of Broderick's landed consistently in the range of 61 meters as he maintained his Junior Pan Am title to the end.
The gold medal contributed by Broderick was one of Jamaica's four from the weekend. With an additional four silver and four bronze medals, Jamaica landed themselves fifth on the board at the conclusion of the Junior Pan Am Games.
The Port Maria native had no lack of preparation, coming off a fourth place finish in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June where he set a new PR of 63.31 meters. He will look to add to his list of accolades as a junior thrower on the USC Men's Track and Field team this spring.
