Adrian Lopez Hits Walk-Off Double as Trojans Beat Huskies, 6-5
May 23, 2025 | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. – Adrian Lopez hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off, 6-5, against Washington for the USC baseball team in its final game of play at the Big Ten Tournament.
The win did not advance the Trojans past pool play, but did send an emphatic message to the NCAA selection committee heading into Monday's selection show, bolstering an already strong postseason resume for USC. The win moves the Trojans to 35-21 on the season while Washington falls to 29-28.
Washington used a five-run sixth inning to take the lead on Friday and USC entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by one, 5-4. Brayden Dowd worked a one-out walk and then Ethan Hedges followed with a single to left. Lopez would come to the plates with two outs and slice a ball down the right field line that dropped in and plated both runners, with Hedges sliding in just past the tag to win it.
In addition to scoring the winning run, Hedges got the win on the mound after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
After the Trojans gave up an early 3-0 lead, Dowd made it a one-run game with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The USC leadoff man had three walks and two runs scored in the game.
An RBI double from Adrian Lopez got USC on the board in the first, and Augie Lopez and Hedges each singled in runs in the fourth to give USC a 3-0 lead. Adrian Lopez had three doubles and three RBI on the day.
