WESTCHESTER, Calif. – The USC baseball team picked up its sixth straight win in a marathon at LMU on Tuesday night, taking down the Lions 14-6.

Abbrie Covarrubias drove in five runs and USC scored seven in the ninth to move to 21-11 overall on the season. LMU falls to 16-17.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning. Jack Basseer drove in a pair with a double and Maximo Martinez and Andrew Lamb each added an RBI. After the Lions answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, Covarrubias pushed the Trojan lead to 7-2 with a three-run shot to left in the top of the third.

LMU hit solo homers in the third and fourth innings, but Jude Favela came in and tossed two scoreless innings to calm things down. Favela got a double play and two strikeouts in his two innings of work.

The Lions made it a one-run game with two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Brodie Purcell got a strikeout to end the threat and strand a pair of runners. USC came back with seven runs in the top of the ninth to put it out of reach. Covarrubias added to his big day with a two-run double, Hedges had a run-scoring single and USC scored two runs on an error and had two more on free passes.
