No. 5 USC Finishes Second at Inaugural MPSF Championship

The Trojans earned wins over No. 1 UCLA and No. 9 Cal but fell to No. 3 Stanford in the championship dual

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The third-seeded and fifth-ranked USC beach volleyball team (26-10) fell to second-seeded No. 3 Stanford (31-8) in the inaugural MPSF Championship Dual at Spiker Beach on Friday, April 25.

The Trojans defeated fourth-seed No. 9 California (27-9) by a 3-2 count to eliminate the Golden Bears and reach the contender's final where they took down top-seeded No. 1 UCLA (30-6), 3-1, to reach the title dual. USC improved to 14-4 against the Bears and moved to 29-21 all-time against the crosstown rival Bruins.

USC fell to 17-5 all-time against the Cardinal and moved to 31-10 in conference tournament duals. Stanford won its first conference title in beach volleyball and received the MPSF's automatic berth into the national championship.

The four-time defending national champion Women of Troy now await the disposition of the NCAA selection committee, which will announce the field of teams that will compete for the national championship next week in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Sunday (April 27) at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on NCAA.com.
