USC Baseball Run-Rules Zags, 11-1

IRVINE, Calif. – The USC baseball team picked up its sixth straight series win on Saturday afternoon, beating Gonzaga 11-1 to clinch the three-game set.
USC's victory came in eight innings with the 10-run rule in effect as the Trojans scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth. USC improves to 25-14 overall with the win, while Gonzaga falls to 18-17.
USC jumped in front with two runs in the third, getting a sacrifice fly from Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek and then an RBI single from Adrian Lopez. Lopez and Jack Basseer followed with two-run homers in the fourth and fifth innings respectively.
Gonzaga's lone run came in the top of the fourth as Hudson Shupe scored on a wild pitch.
Dylan Osborne got the start and tossed 3.2 strong innings, giving up one hit and one run, with the run coming in after he exited the game. Jackson Baker finished the fourth inning and worked a scoreless fifth, handing it off to Sax Matson for a scoreless sixth and then Brodie Purcell for the final two innings.
The Trojan bats put up five runs on four hits to end the game early in the bottom of the eighth. Kevin Takeuchi, Ethan Hedges, Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek and Maximo Martinez each had RBI singles in the inning. Martin-Grudzielanek's drove in a pair of runs and Martinez's scored Hedges to put USC up by 10 runs and end the game.

USC plays at Long Beach State on Tuesday and then travels to Minnesota for a three-game series starting on Friday. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and all three at Minnesota will be on B1G+.
